ZF presents next generation drives & industrial transmissions at bauma 2025

ZF Industrieantriebe Witten GmbH is presenting its latest developments in the field of large drives for the mobile and stationary mining and construction industries at bauma 2025 in Munich this week. The company is bringing its latest innovations to market, including the current generation of the proven Redulus industrial gearbox series Redulus4F, the GPT4F travel gearbox series and the innovations for the ZF Condition Monitoring System ProVID.

It says special application solutions, such as shiftable gearboxes for tunnel boring machines or even complete drive systems for large shredders or roller mills, underline the technical expertise of ZF Industrieantriebe Witten GmbH.

“Advances in large gearbox applications for mining are crucial as the demands on equipment load, durability and performance continue to rise,” said Christoph Kainzbauer, Head of the Industrial Gearbox Product Line in the ZF Group. “Our complete portfolio of gearbox solutions shows our extensive experience in many industries and how we have successfully implemented it in mining applications and large construction machines. We are pleased to be able to present these innovative solutions at bauma Munich.”

The Redulus4F modular system includes 20 gearbox sizes and thus covers a wide torque range from 120 kNm to 7,000 kNm. Its flexible design enables the configuration of more than 2,000 variants. This means that customer requirements can be implemented in a wide variety of applications.

An increase in torque density of more than 50% in the respective sizes leads to higher load capacity and optimal machine performance. The innovative design of this compact gearbox is characterised by reduced sizes and thus lower weight and installation space. Ultimately also with the resulting positive effects on the costs of the complete system over its entire service life.

The quality, efficiency, robustness and reliability of the proven ZF planetary gears can also be relied upon in the next generation of industrial gearboxes.

Access to standard components and fast repairs are crucial for the mining industry. The global ZF service network now includes four regional service centres, 33 service companies and more than 650 partners worldwide who can reliably and efficiently meet customers’ service needs.

ProVID, the ZF Condition Monitoring System for large drive systems, it says offers a unique and innovative approach to tracking the condition of the plant. Fast response times for early fault detection prevent plant downtime or preventative maintenance work can be planned at the right time. Ultimately, the system increases operational reliability, running times are extended, and failures and operating costs are minimised.

A new feature is the clear dashboard on which the operator can easily access the current status data of the plant at any time.

ProVID has proven itself in cable car applications such as ski and urban lift systems and is now being expanded to all other industrial applications. Initial successes are emerging in drives for large roller mills, for example.

Innovative drive solutions that are geared to customer needs are one of the company’s core competencies. For example, continuously or hydraulically switchable gearboxes for tunnel boring machines (TBM) enable optimal operation for customers.

Just like the stationary drives, the travel, swing and winch drives for large mobile machines are continuously evolving. The latest travel gear generation, GPT4F, is designed for mining excavators, large construction machines and crawler drives for heavy duty cranes with machine weights from 80 to 1,000 t and above. By using the latest design and processing tools, the drives here also show a significantly increased torque density compared to previous sizes.

In this context, ZF is showing the modified GPT4F 450 for excavator and crane applications at bauma 2025; with an output torque that is now over 500 kNm. Durability, robustness, service life and power density – the ZF planetary gears can withstand extreme mining conditions.

Furthermore the new GPT4F 2600 sets new standards in the field of chain-driven large excavators with output torques of up to 3,000 kNm.

Describing itself as the only full-service provider for large mobile drives, ZF operates a complete range of products for mining excavators and other large construction machines.
