Vedanta looms at a heavy pollution penalty

To contest Rs.71Cr battle in court of law

Vedanta, a global leader in natural resources, faces a substantial fine in India for alleged improper fly ash disposal. The Odisha State Pollution Control Board has now levied a ₹71.1 crore fine against Hindustan Zinc Ltd (HZL), a Vedanta subsidiary, citing unauthorized fly ash disposal. Vedanta plans to challenge this order legally, anticipating a favorable resolution to mitigate financial repercussions. Improper fly ash disposal, a byproduct of coal combustion in power plants, presents significant environmental concerns.

Vedanta has formally notified the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and will pursue legal recourse.

While this development may impact Vedanta’s financial performance, the company is committed to resolving the matter through legal channels.
