Recently I got a chance to test out Linkind’s sweet, sweet little SL5C solar spotlights. I’ve been itching to vibe out my friend’s yard for a while, and when the mailroom at CleanTechnica received an offer for us to review these, I jumped at it. I’ve tried some other lights, but have never been too thrilled with the user experience. They’re, I mean, fine, but kinda, bleh, you know? So I was pretty jazzed taking these Linkind solar lights out of the box, and getting to know them.
First thing you’ll notice is how intuitive they are. They come with easy spikes to insert in the ground and mount the lights, which are really easy to attach to the lights, and drive easily into the ground. This is a distinguisher from my previous vibe lights, which had janky spikes and required force from above, on a U-shaped soft metal mount, which, guaranteed, bent them and caused them to eventually break. Rubbish. These Linkind lights are rock solid.
The second thing I noticed is how powerful the spotlight is — many of my other attempts at vibery have gone awry because the lights are too subtle. You want a little subtle, but not too much. Thankfully Linkind’s fully dimmable lights have a bright setting as well as the subtle.
The Smart charging and the light show features are two major selling points of these lights.
MPPT Technology
The SL5C is the world’s first smart solar spotlight to incorporate MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) technology, which significantly improves charging efficiency and enables up to 14 hours of runtime in energy-saving mode after a full charge. So no matter the weather, this light will deliver, according to the company. The real time intelligent algorithm adapts to changing sunlight conditions, maximizing energy absorption even when light is low. The charging efficiency is 23.5% higher than industry standards.
Light Show Feature
Users can group multiple SL5C lights in the AiDot app to create dynamic lighting effects with customizable colors, patterns, directions, and playback sequences. You can control up to 32 units, with 14 pre-set effects and the ability to loop up to 8 effects for a mesmerizing display. There’s no wires — each unit is independently powered by its own little solar panel. You can also sync up your music to it.
The app is super helpful — you can schedule things, change colors and brightness, etc., all from your phone. Other vibe lights come with remotes, and well, you know who loses remotes? Everyone. Ahem. So it’s nice that you only lose your ability to control these Linkind lights when you lose your phone, which, thankfully happens less than losing remotes.
The app also allows Smart Scheduling, one of this product’s key features. This means you can schedule it for only evening relax time (like the ones I installed in my friend’s yard), or for security purposes in the darker parts of night. Super handy feature! You can also duplicate any setting across all your connected Linkind SL5C lights.
So I went out in my friend’s yard and placed a couple of lights, toying with light color, brightness, etc., until I found the vibe I thought was cool. Check it out:
Also, they can be set to do light shows, which is pretty baller.
