Corescan Powered by Epiroc launches advanced core imaging tool

Corescan Powered by Epiroc has announced the launch of the new CorePhoto, a powerful imaging tool that captures precise images of core samples onsite. The scanner was recently unveiled at the annual Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC), held from March 2-5, 2025, in Toronto, Canada.

CorePhoto is a high-resolution, automated RGB and laser core profiler sensor scanner that is designed to help mining professionals enhance their knowledge of orebodies by providing more error-free and consistent results. The system uses advanced laser scanning technology to capture detailed images of core samples, allowing precise identification of zones of interest.

CorePhoto datasets can be imported into automated geotechnical processing software to create structural and geotechnical models. Compliance auditing and reporting requirements can also be met with the digital twins of core samples that CorePhoto creates.

With a lightweight and compact design, the scanner is easy to transport by road or air and its ergonomic design minimises the need for manual handling. “Our team is focused on making geological research easier. The new CorePhoto is a cost-effective solution that allows mining professionals to increase productivity and onsite safety. The product features improved throughput for better operational efficiency,” said Penny Dent, General Manager at Corescan Powered by Epiroc.

“This scanner can be transported easily to challenging terrain and remote locations and easy online access to core imagery reduces the need for travel by experts. We believe it stands out from the competition as the preferred system for applying AI techniques to geological datasets. It really accelerates the transformation from physical to digital,” she explained.

“Drilling, mining and exploration companies as well as geologists and geotechnical engineers can all benefit from CorePhoto and we are happy to offer both lease or buy options,” she added. The company will be hosting demo days at its office in Perth, Australia during the month of April so interested parties can see the product in action.
