We publish several in-depth EV sales reports every month, including several focused on European markets. In fact, I don’t think there’s another place on the web that covers EV sales around the world more thoroughly than CleanTechnica. However, we been neglecting the Dutch market for a while. As I was scanning EV sales charts on EU-EVs.com this week, however, I noticed something quite interesting about the current Dutch EV market: the Kia EV3 is crushing it there.
Here are the 10 best selling electric vehicles in the Netherlands based on Q1 2025 data:
- Kia EV3 — 4,008
- Tesla Model Y — 1,755
- Tesla Model 3 — 1,663
- Volvo EX30 — 1,510
- Citroen eC3 — 1,311
- BMW iX1 — 1,161
- Hyundai Inster — 1,123
- Renault 5 E-Tech — 921
- Audi Q6 e-tron — 857
- Ford Explorer — 757
That 4,008 score at the top of the charts if a whopper. It’s almost as much as the next to models (Tesla Model Y and Tesla Model 3) got combined. The EV3 clearly deserved a special shoutout for this.
If you’ve been following along for a while, you probably know that I already had a special spot in my heart for the Kia EV3, and so do you. (For example, see “Is The Kia EV3 The EV We’ve Been Waiting For? Golden Steering Wheel Team Says Yes” and “Hyundai & Kia Most Likely to Fill “Tesla Model C” Hole — Readers Chime In!“) Though, achieving high sales by strongly attracting consumers and having a willingness to produce a model in high volumes is what it’s all about. Congratulations to Kia for nailing this one.
Of course, the Netherlands is just one market. While the EV3’s popularity in the Netherlands deserves special mention, though, it’s also doing quite well in other markets. It’s the 2nd best selling EV in Spain this year. It’s the 3rd best selling EV in Ireland. It’s the 4th best selling EV in the UK. It’s the 5th best selling EV in Finland. It’s the 6th best selling EV in Sweden. It’s the 9th best selling EV in Denmark, where the EV3 was “Car of the Year” last year. And it’s the 11th best selling EV in Norway (9th in February). In short, the EV3 is doing very well across Europe. I think its sales will even pick up much further soon. It also has a ton of potential in other markets — across Asia, South America, and maybe even the US.
We’ll see. Stay tuned.
