MOTHERS in METALS & MINERALS
By Ashim Kumar Mukherjee, Editor-in-Chief Metals Minerals Publication of India
The arena of metals and minerals has always been associated with perceived risks and, therefore, has traditionally remained out of bounds for women. However, historically or in the present, no job has ever been completed solely by one gender. On the eve of International Women’s Day 2025, it is essential to reexamine the role of fostering sustainability through gender equality. This year’s theme, “Accelerate Action,” highlights the urgency of progress. The economy and security of a society are heavily dependent on metals and minerals. Just like two eyes—male and female—both genders are integral constituents of society. In this context, it is crucial to analyze the role of women in the field of metals and minerals from both a historical perspective and in today’s world.
