ReElement Technologies Accelerates Rare Earth Production at Indiana Plant

In a significant stride towards strengthening the United States’ critical mineral supply chain, ReElement Technologies has accelerated its rare earth production at its Indiana facilities. The company, a subsidiary of American Resources Corporation, is at the forefront of refining high-purity rare earth elements essential for various high-tech applications.

Advancements at the Marion Super Site

ReElement’s Marion, Indiana, Advanced Technology Campus is poised to become a cornerstone in domestic rare earth and lithium refining. The facility, spanning 42 acres with 425,000 square feet of production space, is designed to process both recycled materials and concentrated ores. Phase 1 of the project targets an annual production capacity of 1,000 metric tons of rare earth oxides and 5,000 metric tons of lithium carbonate, with purity levels exceeding 99.5% and 99.9% respectively.

The Marion site has garnered substantial support, including a $44.9 million tax increment financing bond from the City of Marion, underscoring the project’s economic and strategic importance.

Innovative Purification Technology

Central to ReElement’s operations is its proprietary purification process, developed in collaboration with Purdue University. This technology enables the efficient separation and purification of rare earth elements from various feedstocks, including recycled permanent magnets and end-of-life batteries. The process not only achieves high purity levels but also minimizes environmental impact, aligning with sustainable practices.

Strategic Partnerships and Market Impact

ReElement has secured a sales and offtake agreement with USA Rare Earth LLC, commencing in 2025. Under this agreement, ReElement will supply over 900 metric tons of high-purity rare earth oxides annually by 2028, contributing significantly to the domestic production of permanent magnets.

Furthermore, ReElement has initiated weekly shipments of high-purity rare earth elements, reinforcing its role in establishing a robust domestic supply chain for critical minerals.
